The four stages of learning to relax
Learning to relax unfolds in several stages.
Stage 1 - Learn to relax
The best way to begin is to learn and practice a simple relaxation technique. We provide two CDs that focus entirely on relaxation and relaxation forms of meditation.
- The Three Easy Steps to Relaxation CD/MP3 - This training CD/MP3 breaks down the process of relaxation into three easy to follow short steps.
- The Introduction to Relaxation-Meditation and Yoga Nidra CD/MP3 - the first track on this CD /MP3 combines the three steps into one powerful healing relaxation technique. The second track is Yoga Nidra which is performed in the lying position and is one of the most powerful forms of relaxation-meditation taught today.
Stage 2 - Apply relaxation into your life
Once learned you can apply the technique into your everyday life. For example, a simple relaxation method using the breath will remove the negative effects of stress very quickly. Even a few slow breaths applied in the correct way will make you feel better almost instantly.
It is important to do this because if stress and tension is not addressed we become distressed, fatigued, irritated and vulnerable to disease. Applying these techniques will make you calmer and give you more energy. You will feel more in control and less fearful, and better able to respond to stress in more skilful appropriate ways.

Stage 3 - Become a more relaxed person
Once we apply relaxation into our lives we begin to create a more relaxed personality. When relaxation becomes a habit we regularly remove stress and tension from our body and mind and prevent the buildup of negative physical and emotional states.
We can gradually transform ourselves into a more relaxed and vital person. Relaxation and energy permeate every part of us and our life.
We may also wish to learn other meditation techniques that can take us into even deeper states of meditation and relaxation, such as Ajapa Japa.
Stage 4 - Learn to remain relaxed under all circumstances
Of course it is relatively easy to relax when we are in a quiet place away from the challenges of life. So the next stage is to learn to stay relaxed. We begin to practice relaxation when we are burdened with ever-growing demands and responsibilities, or when we are facing major challenges.
This is achieved through practice over time.
